Privacy Policy

SkipVid helps you find and jump to relevant moments in YouTube videos and optionally generate AI summaries. We take privacy seriously and designed SkipVid to work without collecting personal data.

What data we process

• Website/extension content: We read publicly available text from the video's transcript to power search, skipping, and summaries.
• Local settings: We may store non-personal preferences (e.g., last search mode) in your browser's local storage.

What we do not collect

• No names, emails, addresses, or other personally identifiable information.
• No passwords or authentication secrets.
• No browsing history outside of the current YouTube tab you use with SkipVid.

How AI features work

When you ask a question or request a summary, SkipVid may send the transcript text (or selected portions) to our backend solely to generate a response. We do not use this data to build user profiles, and we do not sell or share it with third parties for advertising.

Browser permissions (extension)

• activeTab / tabs / host permissions (youtube.com): to access the open YouTube video and retrieve its transcript.
• scripting: to open the transcript panel, highlight matches, and show results on the page.
• storage: to save local preferences only.

Cookies & analytics

SkipVid does not set tracking cookies or run analytics that identify you. If we add analytics or payments in the future, this page will be updated before those changes go live.

Data retention

Transcript text sent for AI processing is used transiently to generate responses. We do not store personal data.

Children's privacy

SkipVid is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Security

We use industry-standard protections for data in transit. No method is 100% secure, but we aim to minimize data handled and retained.

Your choices

• Use the extension without AI features to keep all processing on-page.
• Clear local data via your browser's site data/storage settings.
